New Business:

  • Nominations and volunteers are being accepted for the treasurer’s position. No Volunteers or nominations at this time, Gordon and Tom will take on the responsibilities for the time being until the position can be filled.
  • Redistricting, Paul M. suggested a redistricting plan. We are the second largest district in the state next to district 28 which doesn’t have as many counties, but has more square miles. What Paul brought up was about our districts ability to service its members, both individually and groups. Because of geographic locations, and also because of one area’s handling of its meetings being different from another’s. It also allows access to the DCM positions from a more geographically dispersed area. The groups should not have to worry about not being represented because of their geographic location (distance). What Paul recognized is what we as a district have known for a long time, the need to have more districts to better serve the groups. This is not a new problem, and this suggestion has a lot of merit to it. For the last 70 years this type of issue has been addressed. The traditions are one way to help handle these types of situations, to give some overall direction. The district has no power to force this kind of action. The groups have full autonomy to organize themselves, to identify representatives, to have say so in how to use their funds. This group should not impose a change in structure that will affect other groups. I have a call in to Larry S. our area representative to try and get some clarity for this situation. There are presently about 100 meetings in this district. About 8 counties.
  • 4 Years ago we had 4 districts and then service dropped off and the districts were combined. We need to look at “what is the purpose of the district, and what our mission statement is”.
  • The recommendation is 6-20 groups for a district.
  • We are only one of 2 districts that have 2 area meetings in it.
  • We need to remember that 4 districts that don’t do anything are no better than 1 district that doesn’t do anything.
  • Let me bring back some info from our area rep. and maybe Paul can bring back some more info and we can take that to area to request redistricting.
  • Paul- I am not advocating redistricting, maybe sub districting, something has to work because it’s not working now.
  • Chuck- Our sponsors need to drive their sponsee’s to service work, that always worked in the past.
  • Harry- We have the best web site in the state.
  • Tom B. – I propose that we have a meeting list team please contact me and we will get started. Motion accepted.
  • Motion to stay here one more month, accepted.
  • Any group that wants to host this meeting must physically attend this meeting and give us a 2 month notice in writing of the location and time and directions. This will minimize any confusion and will not disrupt the functionality of this meeting.
